NORDIC MODEL OF HRM? HR PRACTICES IN THE NORDIC AND OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES
Sinikka Vanhala, Professor, Helsinki School of Economics, Finland

Abstract
This paper focuses on Nordic HRM in the context of European HRM. According to several studies and classifications, the Nordic countries, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, form a relatively homogenous group of countries with strong historical, linguistic and ethnic binds. The Nordic countries have managed to combine the welfare state ideology with high national competitiveness. Based on data collected in Cranet-E, the Cranfield Network on European Human Resource Management, HRM is more strategic in the Nordic countries, when measured by formal HRM criteria, and more employee-oriented than in other European countries.
Keywords: European HRM, HR practices, Nordic model, SHRM
